Bravo Saves three penalties as Chile go ahead to lift the Confederations cup
3 penalties 3 saves, Claudio Bravo, after a
difficult 1st season for city, finally answered his critics by turning in a man
of the match performance and taking Chile to the finals of the Confederation
cup, saving all the 3 penalties fired at his goal. The Chilean guessed the
right direction every time as Nani, Quaresma and Moutinho were all denied from
the spot. Bravo also produced an amazing save from a shot by Andre Silva, early
in the 1st half.
Ronaldo goes missing:
Cristiano Ronaldo could be off to his
holidays without much ado as he wasted little time going off down the tunnel
after a horror show in the match.
The Portuguese captain couldn't find any
space leading to negligible involvement in Portugal's attacks and produced just
one shot on target in the 120 minutes. The Real Madrid man never got a chance
to take his penalty as the shootout didn't require the "5th" spot
kick.
Bernardo Silva
Pep Guardiola might have finally got his
Messi at Manchester City by signing this little magician. In a side short of
creativity, Silva ran the show for Portugal in the midfield, going on some
blistering runs dribbling across 2-3 Chile players each time. The 43 million
man was unlucky to be on the losing side but showed why his magical left foot
already has Manchester City licking their lips.
Santos's subs go wrong
Portuguese coach Fernando Santos will be
kicking himself after all 3 of his substitutes, Quaresma, Moutinho and Nani
(probably brought on with penalties in mind) saw their penalties saved by
Bravo. All 3 penalties were weak and predictable, contrasting from the rockets
burried by the Chileans in Rui Patricio's goal.
Vidal the soul of this Chile side
Vidal was by far the best outfield player
in the match as his all-round performance made sure that Chile will have a
chance to get their hands on their 3rd international trophy in 3 years. The
Chilean was denied a winner by the post
just a minute to the end of extra time with the rebound from Martin Rodriguez
also coming out of the crossbar.
